SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES (RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
1. Daily animal care activities to include: feeding, animal observations/identification of clinical concerns, and nail trimming
2. Husbandry activities to include cage change/cleaning, use of power wash and chemical dispensing equipment, and general facility sanitization and support
3. May perform milking of rabbits and standard support activities to meet production goals and adherence to established schedules
4. Proper basic restraint of rabbits to facilitate general animal care, transfers, and sample collection
5. Technical skills to include IP injections. May include IM, IV and SC injections.
6. May perform animal identification applications to include ear tags, tattoos and RFID transponders
7. May provide support for natural and artificial insemination breeding procedures (to include restraint), and kindling/weaning procedures
8. Utilize computer and paper based systems to accurately document and/or record information to assure compliance with applicable regulations, and company policies
9. Dependent upon skill level and support needs, may provide veterinary care and animal treatments as assigned
10. Identify safety issues and initiate corrective actions to reach resolution
11. Identify and communicate animal welfare concerns
12. Exhibit a sound understanding of applicable animal care and use guidelines
13. Weekend and holiday coverage required on a rotating basis
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS}
1. High School Diploma or GED required, 0-3yr laboratory animal experience AS (in related discipline) 0-1yr laboratory animal experience BS (in related discipline) no previous experience required
2. AALAS certification at the ALAT level is preferred
3. Must be able to work in a team-oriented production environment with attentiveness to detail, accuracy and exhibit basic organizational skills
4. Strong attention to detail and compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
5. Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions
6. Demonstrated commitment to teamwork and exhibit good interpersonal skills with team members
7. Exhibit basic working knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, internet)
8. Ability to push/pull wheeled carts weighing up to 500 pounds
9. Ability to lift and manipulate up to 50 pounds
10. Duties require long periods of standing and/or sitting for an average of six hours a day
11. May be exposed to materials and chemicals that are potentially allergenic
12. Duties require actions that involve repetitive motion, to include that of hands and wrists
