Rate of Pay : £20.71- £27.31 per hour Summary: The Allocations & Lettings Officer is a pivotal role within the Housing Needs function, responsible for the fair and efficient distribution of social housing and temporary accommodation. Acting as a specialist in housing law, the post holder manages the end-to-end process of allocating permanent homes via Choice Based Lettings (CBL) and direct matching for vulnerable groups.The role focuses on preventing homelessness, discharging housing duties through the private rented sector, and ensuring that all placements comply with Part VI of the Housing Act 1996 and the Councils specific Allocation Schemes. This position requires a balance of technical legislative knowledge and empathetic, front-line customer service to support individuals with complex needs. Responsibilities: Allocate permanent council and Registered Provider (RP) homes in accordance with Part VI of the Housing Act 1996. Coordinate property advertising via Choice Homes UK (CHUK) and analyze shortlists of bidders. Assess the suitability of temporary accommodation (TA) and Private Rented Sector Offers (PRSO) in line with the Temporary Accommodation Placement Policy. Conduct robust verification checks on shortlisted applicants, including financial assessments, eligibility, and local connection. Refer vulnerable clients to support services for tenancy sustainment, mental health, or substance recovery. Update housing systems to provide real-time data for monitoring void turnaround times and B&B usage Qualifications: Level 4 qualification (e.g., Certificate of Higher Education, NVQ Level 4, HND, or BTEC Professional) or evidence of equivalent demonstrable experience in a high-level analytical role. Essentials: Deep understanding of Part VI of the Housing Act 1996. Working knowledge of the Welfare Reform Act and its impact on housing affordability. Familiarity with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Children Act, and Care Act. Proficient in IT systems (MS Office and housing-specific databases like Abritas/CHUK) and high-level numeracy for financial assessments. Experience in conducting interviews, investigations, and negotiations to determine housing eligibility. Please note: You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
