TechNET IT has partnered with a growing, mid-sized energy infrastructure business that owns and operates a portfolio of operational energy assets. The organisation is focused on optimisation, performance improvement, and digital enablement across its energy estate.
They are now looking to appoint a Digital Analyst to take ownership of their Power BI reporting environment and play a key role in enhancing data-driven decision-making across engineering, operations, and commercial functions.
The Role
As a Digital Analyst, you will analyse a portfolio of operational energy assets and own the development, maintenance, and evolution of Power BI reporting used across the business.
This is a Power BI-led role, with full ownership of dashboard design, data modelling, and reporting architecture. You will ensure Power BI operates as a core decision-support platform, delivering reliable insights into asset performance, optimisation opportunities, and financial outcomes.
Alongside reporting, you will support the management and configuration of digital platforms already deployed across the asset base, including a Digital Twin system used to optimise plant control in real time. You will augment and model operational data to support effective decision-making.
Reporting to the Director of Energy Solutions, you will collaborate cross-functionally to deliver robust analytical tools that improve operational performance and financial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Core Responsibility – Power BI & Reporting (Primary Focus)
* Own the Power BI reporting estate: design, development, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
* Build robust Power BI data models (relationships, measures, calculated fields).
* Develop high-quality, user-focused dashboards for engineering, operations, commercial teams, and leadership.
* Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and performance, including validation and refresh optimisation.
* Manage the full report lifecycle, including enhancements, documentation, and decommissioning.
* Translate stakeholder requirements into scalable Power BI outputs.
* Improve and support data ingestion pipelines feeding reporting infrastructure.
2. Business Process & Data Improvement (Secondary Focus)
* Develop analytical outputs that drive day-to-day operational decision-making.
* Analyse large datasets to assess asset performance.
* Partner with stakeholders to define data requirements and translate findings into actionable insight.
* Support feasibility studies and investment decisions through quantitative analysis.
* Automate data processing and reporting workflows to reduce manual effort.
3. Energy Modelling & Advanced Analytics (Value-Add)
* Support and maintain energy models with validation and continuous improvement.
* Apply statistical modelling and optimisation techniques where appropriate.
* Contribute to the evolution of digital analytics capability within the organisation.
* Stay up to date with developments in energy modelling and data science.
What You’ll Need
Essential – Power BI & Data Analytics (Core)
* Proven experience owning and maintaining Power BI dashboards in a production environment.
* Strong hands-on expertise with DAX and Power Query (M).
* Advanced Power BI data modelling capability.
* Experience managing datasets, refresh schedules, and performance optimisation.
* Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into clear reporting outputs.
* Experience working with large datasets, including validation and transformation.
* Ability to automate data processing and reporting workflows.
Business & Stakeholder Analytics
* Experience working closely with non-technical stakeholders.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
* Clear communication skills, able to present insights to operational and leadership audiences.
Desirable Experience
Energy & Advanced Analytics
* Experience within energy systems, power generation, or operational asset environments.
* Exposure to energy modelling, optimisation, or performance simulation.
* Experience supporting feasibility or techno-economic analysis.
Technical & Data Science
* Proficiency in Python (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Pyomo or similar).
* Exposure to statistical modelling or machine learning.
* Experience integrating data from APIs, cloud platforms, or industrial systems.
Governance & Analytics Maturity
* Experience implementing Power BI governance best practices.
* Familiarity with data governance, documentation standards, and access controls in a scaling organisation.
