Job Description
Green New Deal Rising is looking for a dynamic and go-getting Junior Organiser to support volunteers and supercharge our movement, delivering training and hands‑on support to our local teams.
In our small, agile staff team, you’ll own real responsibility early, contribute to shaping our direction, and watch your work make an immediate impact.
In this role, you’ll be working to support and grow our volunteer base: helping to train organisers, strengthen local teams, and ensure volunteers feel confident, motivated, and equipped to take action. You’ll play a key role in turning people’s energy and commitment into effective organising on the ground.
You don’t need to be an expert already. We’re looking for someone with strong organising instincts, a willingness to learn, and the confidence to take initiative with support. This role is ideal for someone earlier in their organising journey who wants to deepen their skills, take on more responsibility, and be part of a movement building towards real power.
Responsibilities
* Support volunteers and local teams to plan and deliver organising activity that grows people power and advances our strategic priorities.
* Work closely with staff and volunteer organisers to strengthen local teams – supporting recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention of volunteers.
* Help deliver high‑quality training, coaching, and practical support to volunteers, building their confidence and skills to organise effectively in their communities.
* Support the coordination and delivery of local and national organising moments, including days of action, mass mobilisations, and network‑wide events.
* Support the drafting and adaptation of comms outputs, including emails, social media posts, and other movement facing content.
* Use a mix of online and offline organising approaches to engage new people and deepen participation.
* Support volunteers to integrate digital organising into their work, including helping tell the story of local organising through social media and other online platforms.
* Help create spaces (online and in‑person) that are energising, inclusive, and well‑run.
* Contribute to a positive, supportive organising culture that centres justice, anti‑oppression, and equity in how we work together.
* Pitch in as needed across the team, particularly during busy periods or moments of rapid mobilisation.
Role Requirements
We expect the applicant to have most of the key skills and experience, and some of the ‘nice to haves’. Nobody meets everything! We have no specific education requirements, and experience can be in a paid or unpaid context.
If you have any questions about the role or working at GND Rising, please email recruitment@gndrising.org and we’ll get back to you via email or set up a phone call.
Key skills and experience – you will:
* Demonstrate an understanding of people power and how collective action can drive change.
* Have experience being part of a team of organisers, activists, or volunteers, and an openness to learning how to support and develop others.
* Have experience designing and delivering training, workshops, or learning sessions for volunteers, peers, students, or community groups, or be able to demonstrate clear potential to do so.
* Be interested in organising around elections as a tool for social movements, with a willingness to learn and develop electoral organising skills.
* Feel confident using digital tools and platforms to communicate, organise, and collaborate.
* Be able to deliver pieces of work or small projects once briefed.
* Be committed to our Organising Principles, with some experience of involvement in social movements and grassroots campaigning.
* Be willing to work some evenings and weekends, and to travel across the UK as required.
Nice to have but not necessary:
* Some understanding of, or experience with, election organising.
* Experience supporting or coordinating local organising campaigns or small groups of activists.
* Experience designing and/or delivering training
* Experience facilitating online training sessions, large Zoom calls, or hybrid events.
* Some experience with on the ground content creation e.g. shooting video, recording audio out and about, photography at events etc.
