Job Description: Autism Support Coach – Community & Employability Empower young adults. Build confidence. Change futures. Are you passionate about supporting autistic young adults to develop confidence, independence, and real-life skills? Do you thrive in hands-on environments where learning extends beyond the classroom and into the community? We are working in partnership with a specialist Further Education setting for young people aged 19–25 with autism and additional needs, to recruit confident and proactive Teaching Assistants. More than a classroom role This is not a traditional Teaching Assistant position. A key part of the role is supporting learners on a 1:1 basis in the community, helping them access work experience and build independence. You may be: Supporting a learner at a café or work placement Accompanying students to local shops or community settings Helping learners use public transport safely and confidently Building confidence in real-world social and work environmentsThis role requires confidence, initiative, and a strong belief in every learner’s potential. About the setting This specialist provision focuses on preparing learners for independent adult life and employment through personalised programmes. The environment includes: A warm, supportive, and collaborative staff team Vocational learning spaces (gardening, café work, cycle maintenance) Creative areas (art, music, performance) Facilities designed to support sensory needs and wellbeingYour impact As a Teaching Assistant, you will: Provide 1:1 and small group support across sessions Support learners in community-based activities and work experience Help build confidence, independence, and employability skills Accompany learners on off-site visits and support travel training Encourage communication and emotional regulation Support functional skills (English, Maths, ICT) in practical ways Build positive, trusting relationships with learners Work closely with staff to track and support progressWhat we’re looking for Experience supporting individuals with autism is essential GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths A calm, patient, and empathetic approach Confidence working 1:1 and in community settings Ability to adapt and think on your feet Strong communication and teamwork skills Passion for supporting independence and life skillsWhy join this role Make a real impact supporting young adults into independence and employment Work in a hands-on, varied role beyond the classroom Be part of a supportive and experienced specialist team Gain experience in autism education and vocational training Access ongoing training in autism, behaviour, and communicationSafeguarding Create Education and our partner setting are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
