1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant
Part Time - Fixed Term Contract (July 2026)
The governors of this successful school wish to appoint a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a student.
The ideal candidate will be someone who is an enthusiastic and versatile individual with experience and expertise of supporting the learning and wellbeing of young children and who is patient, proactive, and committed to helping children thrive academically and socially in a nurturing environment.
You will be working closely with the class teacher to deliver 1-1 support on personalised targets. You will be well supported by the SENDCO and class teacher to facilitate high quality help so that the pupil you are supporting is able to achieve their very best. Recent experience as a Teaching/Learning Support Assistant, in particular the delivering of individual SEN work with a KS1 pupil is desirable. Your ability to build relationships, have a positive outlook and a willingness to try different approaches is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide 1:1 support to a child with special educational needs/learning difficulties, helping them engage with and succeed in their learning.
2. Assist in the development and implementation of personalised learning plans and strategies.
3. Support the child with both academic tasks and social development, promoting independence where appropriate.
4. Monitor and track the child’s progress, reporting back to teachers and parents as necessary.
5. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring the child feels valued and supported.
6. Collaborate with the wider teaching team to ensure consistent support for the child.
The candidate requires:
7. An understanding of how to inspire and motivate children to achieve their targets.
8. An understanding of strategies to support and challenge pupils learning difficulties.
9. A passion for improving the life chances of children who can find education a challenge
10. A nurturing, patient and understanding approach, having the best interests of the child at heart at all times
We are looking for someone who:
11. Is able to supervise and provide particular support for pupils with special education needs.
12. Can give effective feedback on children’s development to the class teacher and keep records accordingly
13. Is able to support teachers in assessing the needs of individual children
14. Can contribute to establishing an effective and purposeful learning environment in partnership with the teachers and other colleagues.
15. Is able to skilfully observe, record and feedback information on pupil performance.
16. Is a pro-active and co-operative team member
17. Is committed to supporting the vision and ethos of a Catholic School
18. Has the ability to communicate effectively and positively with pupils and colleagues
