We are seeking a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager to lead and develop the Health, Safety and Wellbeing strategy for our Clients team operating in and around Portsmouth. This pivotal role involves developing and maintaining the core Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS), driving safety culture, and ensuring a safe working environment across all departments, including office-based and field/engineering/construction teams.
This is a senior level role working alongside the Senior Leadership Team.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement a strategic health, safety, and wellbeing plan aligned with company goals.
2. Maintain and enhance our OHSMS based on HSG65 principles, ensuring effective implementation and monitoring of health, safety, and wellbeing policies and controls.
3. Collaborate with the People team to identify training needs, support wellness programs, and implement ergonomic solutions to improve employee health.
4. Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure regulatory compliance and promote a safety-first culture.
5. Lead investigations into incidents and accidents to derive lessons and implement corrective actions.
6. Oversee risk assessments, ensuring they are thorough and followed in daily operations.
7. Provide health and safety inductions, toolbox talks, and lead safety campaigns aligned with performance needs and industry standards.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
* Proven experience in Health and Safety management within construction, engineering, water industry, or utilities sector is preferred.
* Experience managing teams and budgets, and working with professional service consultants.
* In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, policies, and best practices.
* Relevant qualifications such as CSCS, NEBOSH, IOSH, SMSTS, and First Aid at Work certificate.
* Full driving licence with the ability to undertake a driver assessment.
