Closing date is 22 April 2026.

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and forward‑thinking Advanced Biomedical Scientist to lead the development, coordination, and delivery of Digital Pathology within our Cellular Pathology department. This new post offers an exciting opportunity to shape digital workflows and support the transition to a fully integrated digital pathology service. The successful applicant will help embed digital processes into routine operations and contribute to ongoing service modernisation.

Working closely with the slide production section, the post holder will have significant Cellular Pathology experience and demonstrate strong leadership and organisational skills. Our service is one of the largest in the country, including Histology, Diagnostic Cytology, Neuropathology, Research and Innovation laboratories, and Mortuary Services. We are a specialist centre receiving high referral volumes and supporting diagnostic pathways across the North East and North Cumbria (NENC) Pathology Network. We also work closely with Integrated Laboratory Medicine, including the Genetics Laboratory Hub, as the regional Cellular Pathology Genomic Centre.

The successful candidate will join the management and scientific leadership team, contributing to timely, accurate, high quality service delivery. The department is UKAS ISO15189 accredited and HTA licensed; experience in these areas and in digital pathology is advantageous.

* Conduct staff appraisal (for specified BMS and HCSA grades) and set objectives and personal development plans.
* Support staff well‑being and sickness absence policies including return‑to‑work interviews and counselling meetings as required.
