Base pay range

Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Contract: 5-year contract


Overview of the Role

Are you passionate about the potential that gardens, gardening, plants and green spaces have to help the environment and act as carbon sinks? The RHS, the world’s leading gardening charity, is looking to recruit a Post-doctoral Fellow to advance research in this field. This position will present an opportunity to carry out innovative research, utilising the considerable reach and resources of the RHS. It will also produce peer-reviewed scientific outputs as well as informal outputs, and conduct knowledge dissemination and impact activities associated with gardens and vegetation carbon balances. A primary objective of the project will be to conduct interdisciplinary research to enable quantification of carbon exchange balances (sequestration, storage, emissions) of various categories of ornamental / garden vegetation at a range of scales, including domestic gardens, field-scale trials and RHS gardens. The Fellowship will also help towards the delivery of the RHS Sustainability Strategy targets on Net Positive for Nature and People, in particular Nature Target 1 – Climate Positive by 2030.

Applicants for this Post-doctoral Fellowship role should have a PhD in either Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Landscaping/Horticulture/Agriculture or related and relevant discipline, together with evidence of experience leading research projects, with scientific rigour.
