SEMH Teaching Assistant
A specialist SEMH provision in L13 is seeking a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant / Learning Mentor to support students in KS1 / KS2. This is a full‑time role working with young people who present with challenging behaviour, emotional needs, and barriers to learning. This post is a temp to perm opportunity and is to begin as soon possible.
About the Role
You’ll play a key part in helping students regulate, re-engage, and succeed in a structured but nurturing environment. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building trust, staying calm under pressure, and using proactive strategies to support behaviour and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
1. Providing 1:1 and small‑group support for SEMH students
2. Using de‑escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviour
3. Supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and positive routines
4. Building strong, consistent relationships with students
5. Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and external agencies
6. Helping create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
What We’re Looking For
7. Experience in SEMH, youth work, mentoring, or behaviour support
8. Strong de‑escalation skills and a calm, confident approach
9. Ability to manage challenging behaviour with consistency and empathy
10. Resilience, patience, and a genuine commitment to young people
11. A team player who can communicate clearly and professionally
12. Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (essential)
