Purpose of the Role:
To support the Cancer Community Programme Manager in understanding the North Shields fishing community's access to cancer healthcare services and to develop an education and awareness programme. This includes addressing barriers to support, promoting screening uptake, encouraging presentation at primary care for earlier diagnosis, and providing supportive care through cancer pathways to improve outcomes for patients with cancer and those post-treatment.

Until the end of March 2027
Hours:
37 hours per week, with some weekend and out-of-hours work may be required. The Fishermen’s Mission operates hybrid working practices with flexibility to meet service needs, as agreed with the line manager.
Responsibilities:
Under the oversight of the Cancer Community Programme Manager, the Cancer Community Engagement Officer will manage daily tasks involving engagement with fishermen, their families, and communities to raise awareness of early cancer screening, testing, and treatment. The officer will collaborate with stakeholders to promote the Cancer Community Programme.
