Class Teacher – Secondary SEMH (Key Stage 3/4)

School: Chiltern Way Academy, Basingstoke
Start Date: As soon as possible
Contract: Full-time
Salary: Pay to scale (MPS/UPS, dependent on experience)

We are seeking a committed and compassionate Class Teacher to work within a secondary SEMH setting, teaching pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4 (ages 11–16). This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about inclusive education and supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, structured lessons to small classes of students who require a highly supportive and consistent approach to learning. Pupils at the school may present with:

* Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

* Challenging behaviour linked to emotional regulation difficulties

* Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

* ADHD

* Trauma, attachment difficulties, and anxiety

* Gaps in prior learning and low engagement with education

The role requires strong behaviour management, restorative approaches, and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students who may have experienced difficulties in mainstream education.

You will work closely with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff, and therapeutic professionals to support both academic progress and emotional development.

Chiltern Way Academy (Basingstoke) is a specialist secondary SEMH provision that supports students who require an alternative to mainstream education. The school places a strong emphasis on:

The Ideal Candidate Will:

* Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

* Have experience working with SEMH and/or challenging behaviour (desirable but not essential)

* Be calm, resilient, and consistent in their approach

* Have strong classroom and behaviour management skills

* Be adaptable and able to differentiate learning effectively

* Build positive relationships with vulnerable young people

* Have a clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
