This is a key senior leadership role within the organisation, responsible for overseeing all procurement functions and supporting commissioners across a wide range of business categories. The role reports directly to the Executive Director of Resources and supports a team undergoing transformation following a recent service re-design consultation. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior procurement professional to provide strategic guidance and operational leadership while a permanent Head of Procurement and wider team are recruited. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the strategic procurement function across the council. Oversee procurement activity in collaboration with commissioners and category managers. Provide expert advice on procurement best practices, regulations, and compliance (particularly within the public sector). Ensure effective governance, risk management, and value-for-money principles are applied. Support the development and implementation of procurement strategies aligned with council priorities. Act as the senior point of contact for external procurement and contract management matters. What the client is looking for: Proven senior-level experience in public procurement (Head of Procurement or above). Previous experience working within a local authority setting is highly advantageous. MCIPS qualified (or equivalent); additional project management qualifications preferred. Completion of all 10 PA23 Government Commercial Function modules is essential. Priority will be given to candidates who are Advanced Practitioners (3-day deep dive completed).
