Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Porter to join our team here at Ormskirk Hospital. Porters at Ormskirk Hospital perform a variety of essential duties:
* Patient and Equipment Transportation: Moving patients in beds and chairs, and transporting medical equipment and furniture between departments.
* Logistics and Deliveries: Transferring specimens, pharmacy boxes, and other items throughout the hospital. Collecting waste, including potentially hazardous materials.
* General Support: Providing assistance and direction to patients and visitors.
Main duties of the job
* Assist the Portering team leader by delivering a customer focused service.
* Provide an efficient and effective portering service to patients, visitors, and all wards/departments.
* Maintain a high standard patient environment and ensure safe working practices in environmental/hygiene management.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Ensure economic use of materials
* Minimise waste and maintain high standards of quality
Quality Management
* Maintain good customer relations with patients and staff
* Maintain and improve all aspects of the service
* Participate in staff involvement groups for quality improvements
* Ensure compliance with food safety legal requirements
* Maintain high standards of personal hygiene per infection control guidance
Human Resources Management
* Ensure compliance with trust policies
* Provide guidance to new or existing staff
* Attend required training and annual refresher sessions
Operational Duties
* Collect refuse (clinical, domestic, confidential, special, recyclable)
* Maintain entrances and provide a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors, including regular security checks and fire alarm response
* Issuing of keys
* Safe patient movement (including unescorted x-ray/ECG patients)
* Move case notes in line with confidentiality and data protection policies
* Collet/Distribute linen; move furniture and equipment around wards
* Deliver meals, stores and provisions to wards using road vehicles; daily safety checks on delivery vehicles
* Safely collect and transport bloods and specimens; transport to pathology and theatre
* Assist with transfer of bodies and liaise with relatives as required
* Store keeping and stock rotation
* Medical gas checking and replacement; comply with pharmacy procedures
