We are seeking a full-time HealthCare Assistant to join our team on a fixed term contract for 12 months working across the AWC Division. This is far more than a traditional support role you will be a vital member of the nursing and practice team, contributing directly to the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate patient care while supporting service efficiency and quality improvement.

Main duties of the job

This is a hands‑on, patient‑facing clinical support role working closely with the nursing and wider multidisciplinary team to promote health, prevent illness, and support the ongoing management of patients across the practice.

You will carry out a range of clinical tasks including patient health checks, observations, phlebotomy, urine testing, and ECG recording where trained, supporting both routine and long‑term condition monitoring. The role also involves assisting with vaccination programmes, wound care, suture and staple removal where appropriate, and providing patients with health promotion advice to support self‑care and wellbeing.

You will maintain accurate and timely clinical records, respond to patient queries, and work collaboratively across the practice to ensure smooth, safe, and effective care delivery. Flexibility, professionalism, and a compassionate approach are essential as you support both patients and colleagues in a fast‑paced Primary Care environment.

Pre‑employment requirements

Vaccinations: Evidence of Hepatitis B (x3), titre level and/or booster, and MMR and Varicella status required. Support is available for those who are undecided.

Right to work: Proof of eligibility to work in the UK required at interview.

References: Two references required, one of which must be your current or most recent employer.

Employment history: Any employment gaps of 6 weeks or more must be declared.


Person Specification


Knowledge and Experience

* Experience working within Primary or Secondary Care
* Experience of data input, information gathering, and maintaining confidentiality
* Blood pressure monitoring
* Urine testing
* Ability to follow clinical guidelines and protocols
* ECG recording
* EMIS or System1 experience
* Wound care
* Suture or staple removal
* As part of recruitment to the Modality Partnership, we will be checking the vaccination status of all new starters so that we can manage individual and environmental risks. We will offer support to those who may be undecided about vaccinations. Hepatitis B, titre levels and booster evidence for this role is mandatory, and you will be asked to provide evidence of this before your start date is confirmed.
