NHS Lanarkshire – University Hospital Wishaw
Consultant Gastroenterologist with an interest in Hepatology
This post offers the opportunity for a committed and ambitious clinician to join the NHS Lanarkshire Gastroenterology service based at University Hospital Wishaw. This substantive post is a significant step in establishing a dedicated hepatology service at UHW. The successful candidate will work closely with a full‑time substantive Hepatologist at University Hospital Hairmyres and a LTFT colleague at Monklands. The successful applicant will be expected to lead and support the recently funded haemochromatosis service and will work closely with an experienced team of Clinical Nurse Specialists.
Gastroenterology services are offered at all three NHS Lanarkshire sites and include inpatient care, outpatient clinics, endoscopy lists (including ERCP) and involvement in the general medical take. There are currently five consultants within the department after recent recruitment, allowing the department to improve patient pathways and expand the hepatology service. Support comes from specialist nurses in managing IBD, liver disease and secretarial support.
The job is offered as a full‑time post on a 10 PA basis but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full‑time. Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged.
In addition to the 1 PA for non‑DCC/SPA activities, the Board supports applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well‑developed ideas for improving services who can demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), medical education, research & development, acting as an appraiser, etc. Applicants who can demonstrate a commitment to any of these areas and who wish to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the Recruitment Lead or Service Manager who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements.
The University of Glasgow enjoys close links with NHS Lanarkshire, and our medical students benefit greatly from excellent educational opportunities provided by the board in both primary and secondary care.
