Who You Are Cardiff Council Children’s Services seeks a seasoned safeguarding professional to join our Safeguarding and Reviewing Hub as an Interim Designated Officer for Safeguarding (DOS). You are an individual with experience in managing allegations and concerns about people working with children, adhering to the Wales Safeguarding Procedures and Cardiff’s Professional Concerns Processes. Experience in a similar role, akin to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) in England, is essential to successfully transition to the Welsh safeguarding framework. What the Job Involves The postholder will: Lead and coordinate Cardiff’s response to safeguarding allegations involving practitioners, carers, and volunteers working with children. Provide expert advice, guidance, and support on professional concerns and safeguarding thresholds. Chair multi-agency Professional Concerns Strategy Meetings for effective decision making and safeguarding actions. Liaise with South Wales Police, Education, Health, CIW, and relevant bodies. Ensure the child’s voice and safety remain paramount in all decision making. Work collaboratively with various departments to ensure a consistent response across the workforce. Maintain accurate records, contribute to performance monitoring, and support workforce development. Contribute to broader safeguarding work, addressing emerging themes and inter-agency problem solving. Skills Significant post-qualifying experience in safeguarding/child protection. Background in Social Work. Understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures in Wales or England. Experience managing complex safeguarding concerns and multi-agency settings. Ability to chair or lead multi-agency meetings. Risk analysis, decision making, and managing competing information. Strong communication, partnership working, and report writing skills. Desirable: Previous LADO/DOS experience, knowledge of Welsh policies, experience in education settings, training delivery, managerial experience. Additional: Enhanced DBS check, flexible working, commitment to child-centered practice, regulatory body registration.
