We are looking for a technically skilled and inspiring Senior Lead Security Operations Specialist to help drive the transformation of our Security Operations Centre (SOC). This is a key leadership role that combines technical depth with people-centred leadership, contributing to the protection of our digital services and data. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives on complex incident handling, wants to influence and enhance cyber monitoring strategy, and is excited about building a proactive and resilient SOC capability within an organisation undergoing significant digital and cultural transformation. You’ll support and deputise for the Head of Security Operations, shape our approach to incident detection and response, and mentor junior members of the security team. This role will see you lead by example, help develop detection logic and automation, and engage directly with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

As the Senior Lead Security Operations Specialist, you’ll be responsible for safeguarding the organisation’s digital estate by leading advanced security monitoring, detection, and incident response functions.
* Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of our cyber monitoring and incident response capabilities.
* Support the Head of Security Operations in defining the vision, principles, and strategy for threat detection and response.
* Act as a senior escalation point during complex incidents, ensuring swift containment, remediation, and recovery.
* Optimise the performance and cost-efficiency of our monitoring tools, including Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Defender, and security services within Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.
* Create and maintain playbooks, rulesets, and detection logic that drive proactive threat detection and reduce noise.
* Stay ahead of emerging threats and innovations, advising on new technologies and techniques to strengthen our security posture.
* Provide hands-on mentorship and coaching to SOC team members, supporting their technical development.
* Represent the team at internal senior leadership meetings and external security working groups in the absence of the Head of Security Operations.
About the team
The Cyber Security Team sits within the Data and Cyber Security Directorate, a growing part of Companies House that plays a central role in keeping our systems, data, and services secure as we undergo a large-scale digital transformation. You’ll be joining the Security Operations Centre, a collaborative and skilled team responsible for monitoring, detecting, and responding to security threats across the organisation. We are building out a modern SOC, focused on automation, proactive detection, and intelligent response. The team works closely with digital, platform, data, and infrastructure teams to embed security into everything we do. The team culture is open, inclusive, and centred around learning and collaboration. We believe in shared responsibility, encourage knowledge-sharing, and support individual growth. You’ll have opportunities to shape tooling and processes, contribute ideas, and help build a security function that evolves with the organisation’s needs.

We are looking for the following experience and skills which will be assessed at sift and interview.
Experience
We are looking for applicants who have:
* Significant experience in security operations, particularly in managing monitoring platforms, incident response, and threat hunting.
* Technical expertise in SIEM configuration and tuning, with experience in Microsoft Sentinel, Defender, or similar tools.
* A deep understanding of modern cloud infrastructure (Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services) and its security components.
* Demonstrated experience working with Forcepoint Email Security and Proxy solutions, including policy tuning and event triage.
* Demonstrated experience working with Database activity monitoring and database security controls, including integration with monitoring platforms and risk alerting.
* Demonstrable leadership and mentoring skills within a Security Operations Centre or cybersecurity function.
* Experience in assessing complex incidents, making real-time decisions, and communicating impact and remediation effectively.
* A proactive mindset with a passion for improving tooling, processes, and the capabilities of those around you.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
