Overview
Manufacturing Engineer - iStream Structure role at Gordon Murray Automotive is to ensure that the project M-LightEn (the next generation of iStream) progresses from the current iStream Superlight (New iStream) technology from a technical and manufacturing perspective. The role provides support to Gordon Murray Group (GMG), Gordon Murray Advanced Engineering (GMAE) & Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) M-LightEn project team to deliver future Gordon Murray Group vehicle projects in a professional, cost effective and timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high quality and imaginative technical solutions to project requirements, under the guidance of a more senior engineer when necessary.
* Contribute to and support events and activities that the Company may become involved in.
* With other members of the Manufacturing Team, prepare concepts, layouts, analysis and specifications required to manufacture and implement assembly (bonding and mechanical fixing) of composite parts to the vehicle primary structures.
* Provide input data to Design, CAE and other Engineering activities.
* Deeply engage in the creation of a trustworthy Digital Twin for iStream structures, leading the manufacturing aspects and deliverables associated with it.
* Co-lead with the Engineering Structures team the investigation of Additive Manufacturing solutions for iStream nodes, including full solution benchmarking vs. baseline as well as insourcing opportunities and manufacturing-side CO2 accounting.
* Liaise with project M-LightEn Team to support feasible design solutions with regard to manufacturing, assembly and homologation.
* Liaise with Engineering, Design and Project Management to ensure technical targets, program timings and budgetary requirements are met.
* Prepare and release designs for tooling, jigs and fixtures, plant installation, assembly cells etc.
* Liaise with the Prototype Workshop to provide feasible design solutions and support workshop activities pre, during and post-vehicle build.
* Schedule own activities to provide engineering deliverables that meet required specifications within timescales and budgets.
* Plan and maintain progress in improving personal professional competence.
* Ensure that your technical knowledge and expertise is kept up to date with in-depth knowledge of current OEM manufacturing processes, technologies and equipment, as well as OEM supply chain strategies.
* Initiate and conduct meetings with technical suppliers, third party suppliers, and technical partners as may be required.
* Ensure tooling, jigs and fixtures for the assemblies and composite parts are aligned (example: aligning of inspection gauge layout and assembly jig gauge layout)
* Present concepts and design status to client project teams, client senior management, project suppliers and internally to Company personnel.
* Ensure own designs meet all relevant safety and regulatory requirements, and are formally verified to meet these and other specifications (performance, cost).
* Contribute to complete effective engineering plans and schedules, including planning own activities.
* Identify and highlight any areas for continuous improvement.
* Lead the New iStream manufacturing validation by organising and managing the Run@Rate envisioned under M-LightEn.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Extensive programme engineering/management experience in composite assembly to the vehicles in projects, including PPAP, PSW, PFMEA and Control Plans.
* Extensive knowledge of assembly (both mechanical and adhesive) techniques and processes for composite parts including industrial plastic, autoclave and press formed components.
* Knowledge of composite materials (both fabrics and matrix systems), manufacturing techniques and processes including industrial plastic, autoclave and press forming technologies preferable.
* Knowledge of additive manufacturing materials and technologies for composite components assembly preferable.
