Role Overview
The position is a Biomedical Science Support Worker – responsible for processing a designated range of tests and carrying out technical procedures on patient samples using a range of scientific measurements and complex equipment. The role requires operating and maintaining complex instrumentation, performing daily instrument testing, first line maintenance, repair, technical fault finding, and quality control.
Responsibilities
* Process a designated range of tests and undertake technical procedures on patient samples using a range of scientific measurements.
* Operate and maintain complex equipment, performing daily instrument testing, first line maintenance, repair, and technical fault finding.
* Ensure all standard operating procedures are followed and maintain accurate documentation.
* Prioritise own workload and that of support staff within the section.
* Participate in training of less experienced personnel and contribute to the development of colleagues.
* For pathology based posts, receive, store and discharge deceased patients in the mortuary.
Qualifications
* Minimum of an HND in Biomedical Sciences; a science degree is desirable.
* At least two years experience as a Healthcare Science Support Worker (Higher grade) with evidence of training and applied knowledge of a wide variety of laboratory procedures.
* Commitment to further educational development to HND level.
* Attendance at courses and training on new instrumentation.
* IT skills.
Requirements
A full UK/EU/EEA driving licence is required.
