The Families First for Children Programme aims to improve how families are supported to enable children to remain safely within their own families and communities, and to ensure children are protected from harm both inside and outside the home. To support this, Sandwell Children’s Trust are seeking to recruit a Communications Lead.


Key responsibilities:

* To support the Programme Manager.
* To act as the communications lead for the Families First programme, mapping relevant stakeholders and audiences, and developing a communications plan to ensure that the right messages get to the right audience at the right time. To work collaboratively with other members of the programme team or colleagues in other service areas as appropriate, to ensure that the plan is delivered.
* Work with service leads across the Trust, council and other partners to develop and propose communications approaches to support the delivery of the Families First programme, engaging, consulting and negotiating with relevant stakeholders, and utilising skills of persuasion where necessary, to agree a unified communications approach across all partners.
* Use campaign planning methodology to ensure that the impact of communications activity can be measured, and that work is evaluated so that lessons can be applied to future activity.
* Use segmentation and mapping techniques to identify target audiences and potential partners in delivering a message.
* Ensure that Families First communications plan and activity is aligned to the Trust and partner communication strategies and forward plan.
* Ensure communication activities are consistent with programme, Trust, council and partner branding and style guidelines.
* Develop a detailed understanding of the most effective channels and tactics to present accurate, detailed and complex information, tailored to the needs of different audiences.
* Liaise with senior stakeholders to draft responses to media enquiries relating to the Families First programme.
* Draft copy for press releases, websites and newsletters relating to the Families First programme, working with other members of partnership communications teams to delegate tasks or produce complementary assets when appropriate.
* To liaise with Trust, council and partner web leads to develop an online presence for the Families First programme, including information on relevant intranet sites and a public facing Families First website.

Person requirements:

* At least 4 years’ experience working in a communications role.
* Proven ability to instil and manage visual consistency from brand/campaigns across all platforms.
* Excellent creative presentation skills with the ability to articulate and sell concepts to Trust, council and partner staff, senior leadership, children, young people, families and members of the public.
