An opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Physiotherapy technician to join our established team working across the admissions units at Morriston Hospital (AMU, SDEC, Emergency department & Older Persons Assessment Unit). We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with good communication, organisation and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

You will be supported by Physiotherapists to work independently and as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team to assess individuals function and facilitate discharge from hospital. We aim to deliver the right care, in the right place and at the right time, which is why Physiotherapy in our admissions areas are so vital. The role involves working within the physiotherapy team across the admissions units of Morriston Hospital, in the assessment and rehabilitation of patients to ensure timely and safe discharge from hospital.

You will need to be able to demonstrate experience of working in rehabilitation in NHS, Social Care or Community based settings. Previous therapy assistant experience is highly desirable for this role.

The post holders must be able to work with discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times.

Main duties of the job

The work will be varied and based in hospital setting. The role involves therapeutic interventions. The post holder will be required to work within any of the admissions units to promote rehabilitation, enhance outcomes and aid early discharge.

The post holder is required to work unsupervised, undertaking independent interventions and decision making within agreed protocols, although some supervision and support would be available from qualified therapists.

The role may involve the fitting and instruction on use of adaptive equipment, the supervision of adaptive daily living skills and leading therapeutic groups. The post holder may be required to carry out any of these tasks single-handed.

To assess and undertake agreed treatment programmes with individual clients/patients.

1. Previous experience as a Support Worker within hospital, community or social care setting or exercise instructor experience
2. Experience of communicating with a variety of people
3. Evidence of ability to formulate and adjust plans

Qualifications

4. NVQ level 3/ Agored Level 3 or equivalent plus knowledge of specific patient conditions and forms of therapy/exercise delivery acquired through training and experience.
5. Computer literacy /I.T. skills and knowledge.
6. Basic numeracy and literacy
7. Documented evidence of CPD/reflective practice.
8. Knowledge of basic medical conditions and an understanding of health procedures relating to the work area.
9. Working knowledge of the principles of Clinical Governance
