The Head Teacher of a welcoming mainstream primary school in Southport (PR8) is seeking to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support a pupil who is new to English. Starting in November 2025, this is a full academic year position (term-time only), ideal for someone with a strong understanding of language development and inclusive support.
About the Role:
This rewarding role focuses on providing tailored support to a pupil with English as an Additional Language (EAL), helping them access the curriculum, develop communication skills, and build confidence in a new learning environment.
You will work closely with the class teacher and EAL lead, using structured activities and visual aids to support spoken and written English. Your role will be key in ensuring the pupil feels included, understood, and supported in both their learning and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide one-to-one support to a pupil who is new to English, both in class and during targeted intervention sessions
* Adapt classroom tasks and instructions to support language development and access to learning
* Use visual resources, modelling and repetition to reinforce new vocabulary and concepts
* Encourage social interaction and inclusion during group activities and playtimes
* Monitor and record progress in language acquisition and participation
* Collaborate with teaching staff and the EAL lead to plan effective strategies
* Promote a calm, safe, and nurturing environment for learning
Essential Requirements:
* A Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
* Experience working in a UK primary school setting
* A sound understanding of how to support EAL pupils or children with emerging English skills
* A caring, patient, and flexible approach to support learning and behaviour
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt language and tone appropriately
* A proactive attitude and willingness to work as part of a collaborative team
* A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
