Consultant Plastic Surgeon - interest in breast reconstruction & trauma

We are looking to appoint a whole‑time Consultant Plastic Surgeon specialising in soft tissue reconstruction (including breast reconstruction) and trauma to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The role is based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.
We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well‑established careers.
Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full‑time can be considered for the position; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision and development of the breast reconstruction service at the Royal Hallamshire, working closely with the oncoplastic surgeons within the team. The post holder will support the trauma service at the Northern General site for general plastic trauma including burns and semi‑elective conditions. All plastic surgery consultants in the team participate in general plastic and reconstructive work including skin cancer.
The appointee will be part of a trauma on‑call rota (1:18) covering both Trusts involving Northern General, Royal Hallamshire and the Sheffield Children’s Hospital. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department.

Qualifications
* Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
* If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* Completed recognised training in plastic surgery.
* MD or PhD or equivalent.
* Additional subspecialty training in breast and/or trauma reconstruction fellowships.
Clinical experience
* Broad experience in the generality of Plastic Surgery with a particular emphasis on sarcoma management and complex soft tissue reconstruction, including complex breast.
* Needs to have current Safeguarding Child/Adult competencies.
* Good knowledge of modern surgical techniques including the use of skin substitutes and microsurgical techniques.
Research
* Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate.
* Publications in Peer‑reviewed journals.
Teaching and training
* Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels.
CPD
* Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months.
* Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio.
Management and Administration
* Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management.
Clinical governance and audit
* Experience in performing clinical audit.
* Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project.
Personal attributes
* Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values.
* Good oral and written communication skills.
