Job Summary
To assist the development, implementation and evaluation of maternity clinical audit systems and processes. To evidence and support safe, effective high quality maternity care. The post holder will audit to assure our high standards of quality care are maintained and, where necessary, improved. The post holder will also support service improvements and implementation of evidence-based practice. Audit findings will be presented to a multidisciplinary audience.
Responsibilities
* Complete and analyse quantitative and qualitative data supporting effective audit for maternity services; produce reports and ongoing analysis.
* Analyse and identify trends to inform action plans for relevant teams.
* Collaborate with the MDT to monitor audit progress.
* Alert the Assurance Midwife to areas of concern arising from complex clinical audit information.
* Interpret and assess relevance of audit policy and guidance; provide guidance to teams for implementation.
* Perform individual stand‑alone audits and present findings to multidisciplinary teams.
* Identify quality improvements that benefit women, babies and the maternity service.
* Ensure audit methods remain contemporary and relevant to women and their families.
* Work in partnership with the Trust Audit Team when indicated.
Qualifications
* Midwifery Degree
* Registered Midwife with current professional registration
* Evidence of CPD Mentor/Assessor training or willingness to undertake
Desirable Qualifications
* Experience of quality improvement
* Excel training

* Recent clinical practice
* Well documented current CPD portfolio
* Ability to work autonomously within professional and Trust guidelines
* Knowledge of SBL, 3‑Year Delivery Plan, NHS improvements & priorities, local health promotional strategies
* Understanding of needs of high and low risk women and neonates, and of diverse service user populations
* Ability to give advice on maternity issues to clients, MDT, external agencies
* Knowledge of child protection issues and required actions
* Knowledge of legal and ethical principles in midwifery
* Ability to manage obstetric emergencies while awaiting medical assistance
* Good understanding of quality and safety process management
* Use of computer packages (Excel, Word, digital maternity system) to access guidelines, collate data and produce reports
Desirable Experience
* Evidence of working in all areas of midwifery

* Negotiation, organisational and delegation skills
* Preceptorship mentoring and assessment of student midwives
* Influencing, persuasive, and staff rota coordination skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication, including with diverse groups
* Interpretation of complex cases and formulation of care plans (mental health, child protection, high risk)
* Resuscitation skills for maternal and neonatal emergency; knowledge of infection control procedures
* Security and safety awareness within the maternity unit

* Band 6 – £39,959.00 to £48,117.00 yearly (Agenda for Change)
* Permanent contract, part‑time flexible working
