The Opportunity
A leading, multi-disciplinary façade design team is seeking an experienced and highly capable Senior Structural Engineer to join its London-based façades group. The team brings together structural engineers, façade specialists, building physicists, and architects, all united by a shared commitment to delivering innovative, technically robust, and high-quality façade and cladding solutions across a wide range of project types.
This role offers the opportunity to work on complex and architecturally ambitious projects, collaborating closely with design teams, specialist contractors, and clients from early concept stages through to detailed design and construction support.
The Role
As a Senior Structural Engineer within the façades team, you will play a key leadership role, combining advanced technical expertise with people management and project delivery responsibilities. Your role will include, but not be limited to, the following:
* Providing technical leadership on façade and cladding projects, guiding design development from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
* Leading and managing a team of structural engineers, supporting their professional development through mentoring, technical guidance, and performance feedback.
* Planning, managing, and coordinating the allocation of work within the team to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, to a high technical standard, and in line with programme requirements.
* Actively participating in and leading design workshops with architects, clients, and the wider design team to drive façade concepts, resolve technical challenges, and support integrated design solutions.
* Reviewing and critically assessing detailed design submissions produced by specialist façade contractors, including structural calculations, analysis models, reports, and drawings.
* Providing clear, well-reasoned technical opinions on contractor proposals and being confident in discussing, challenging, and justifying structural approaches where required.
* Supporting project teams during construction stages, responding to technical queries, reviewing shop drawings, and attending site meetings as necessary.
* Contributing to the continuous improvement of façade engineering standards, best practices, and internal design processes within the team.
* Assisting with bid support, fee proposals, and project planning for façade-related scopes of work where required.
