Job Summary

The Successful Candidates Will

* Support in the creation and lead on the interpretation of analytics.
* Have good analytical, technical and communication skills to aid the production of accurate & robust statistics & intelligence.
* Understand their stakeholders' strategic direction, current issues, and prioritise & manage workload to deliver effective outputs at the right time.

The successful candidate(s) will also possess excellent numeracy, logical and communication skills, be educated to Degree level or have equivalent experience & knowledge in the Analytics/Business Intelligence sphere.

This is a development role where the successful candidate(s) will commence on the job training as a band 6 before progressing to band 7 on successful completion of the programme.


Main duties of the job

* Work alongside the Analytics & Data Science team in the provision of an Analytics and Business Intelligence service to the Trust, its Divisions, Corporate Functions and Commissioners.
* Support in the creation or interpretation of analytics.
* Support the design and rollout of interactive dashboards and aid the DAA Development team during production.
* Have good analytical, technical and communication skills to aid the production of accurate & robust statistics & intelligence.
* Understand stakeholders' strategic direction and current issues to prioritise & manage workload.
* Have a good awareness of the Trust's external environment to identify & respond to variations from local or national trends.
* This is a hybrid working role requiring a minimum of one day per week commute to the Wigan office; flexible to department needs.

Job Responsibilities

* Take a lead role in the implementation and monitoring of reporting mechanisms to improve Management Decision Making process.
* Lead in the provision of data intelligence and advice to Divisional Director of Performance, Divisional Clinical Director, Performance Managers, Divisional Heads of Department and other managers.
* Collaborate with the Divisions in their annual performance, business and commissioning planning processes.
* Meet with stakeholders to identify opportunities or issues early for effective action.
* Have responsibility for any intelligence produced, validated or submitted by the post holder and within the team.
* Support quality and safety improvement by providing analysis and guidance on measurement, reporting and data capture requirements.
* Integrate into the division and work alongside performance leads, clinicians, managers and accountants to fully understand requirements.
* In partnership with the Analytics team, produce and review monthly performance reports and disseminate to key contacts; provide advice to aid interpretation and alert to anomalies.
* Liaise with accountants to understand activity issues affecting financial performance and support divisions with appropriate intelligence.
* Play a key role in obtaining divisional agreement and ownership of performance targets.
* Set standards for reporting activity and performance, including styles and formatting for other DAA Analysts.
* Undertake constant horizon scanning, reviewing benchmarking tools and advising the division / Trust accordingly.
* Produce sensitive and confidential data for ad-hoc requests; liaise with other departments and outside agencies to meet tight deadlines.
* Perform complex patient-based analyses from Trust systems to tight deadlines, using the tools provided primarily by the data warehouse.
* Interpret national guidance/definitions and oversee changes to the data warehouse.
* Support data quality responsibilities of BI projects by identifying anomalies, providing analyses and participating in audits.
* Attend and participate in Trust training programmes.
* Stay aware of national developments within NHS and the wider BI community; lead on ensuring the department stays up to date.
* Provide training sessions on a group or individual basis as required.
* Work with users to resolve BI reporting problems and issues.
* Work with clients to develop new BI reporting solutions and capture end user requirements.
* Document procedures and work closely with the Production & Modernisation, Business Analysis and Data Quality Team for ongoing improvement.
* Support and promote the Trust's DAA Strategy.
* Research and drive innovation, exploring automated approaches for BI reporting.
* Assist with identifying efficiencies, explaining knock‑on effects to quality and performance.
* Act as a mentor to junior staff, ensuring knowledge transfer and development.


Person Specification


Essential Qualifications

* Educated to degree / HND level or equivalent knowledge & experience.
* Mathematics qualification – minimum GCSE pass.
* Evidence of professional and/or personal development.


Desirable Qualifications

* Degree / HND in mathematics, statistics or similar.
* UK CHIP level 1 or above.


Essential Experience

* Experience analysing data.
* Experience within a Business Intelligence Department.
* Experience developing efficient information outputs.
* Data interpretation.
* Capturing end user requirements.
* Validating large or complex intelligence.
* Identifying, managing or communicating data quality issues.


Desirable Experience

* Experience in a busy NHS Business Intelligence team, or public sector healthcare data.
* Use of statistics / forecasting.
* Experience with web-based BI reporting software such as Qlik.
* Supporting clinicians and management in information provision and interpretation.
