Job overview
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development and/or implementation and evaluation of programmes of care
They are expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision maintaining a high standard of nursing care within the framework of Trust policies and in accordance to guidelines as laid down by the NMC.
They are expected to supervise qualified junior staff and HCAs.
They will teach qualified and unqualified staff, including pre-registered and post basic students.
Main duties of the job
* Acts in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct
* Maintain professional working relationships with all members of the cardiac team and effectively contribute to the team’s continual development.
* Provide nursing assistance to the Medical Team during procedures and investigations
* Undertakes the nursing assessment of the patient including risk assessments e.g. Tissue viability, moving and handling and nutrition
* Ensures plans of care for patients are written and updated as appropriate.
* Recognise situations that may be detrimental to the health and well being of the individual and take appropriate action.
* Works in a team with other nurses liaising with the multidisciplinary team.
* Maintains absolute confidentiality in respect of all medical and nursing records and also inter-personal issues with colleagues.
* Interpret the significance of the patient’s clinical observations and records and taking appropriate action but ensuring senior nursing staff are kept informed at all times.
* Assist with manual handling and transferring of patients complying with the Trust Moving and Handling policy.
* Uses research-based practice to provide quality care to patients.
* Assist the Unit Manager in maintaining the privacy and dignity issues of patients and staff.
