Location: Wigton
Contract Type: Part-time, permanent
Specific Hours: hours per week - shift pattern
Unqualified Basic Salary:£, pro rata (£, FTE) per annum with a potential to earn up to £, with sleep-in shifts

(Qualified Care Worker salary is based on the proven existing completion of a Level Diploma for Residential Childcare)
North Lakes Children’s Services is a well-established local provider of residential care and education for boys aged -. We aim to improve resilience, self-esteem, and abilities of all the young people we work with.
As a Residential Support Worker, there is a high expectation to be “strong, committed, and passionate” about your role. The young people are at the centre of everything we do - both for and with them. You are a role model, a listening ear, a warm and approachable person, and potentially someone who could inspire and make a significant impact on a young person’s life, their choices, and their potential. You need to promote, support, and facilitate the creation of “happy memories” and have fun with them to do so.
We are currently seeking permanent Support Workers to join our team who have a warm and approachable manner and feel they can make a significant impact on a young person’s life in how they recover from early life experiences.
Main Duties
In each home, detailed shift planners/diaries/handover documents outline specific daily duties and tasks, varying between term-time and holiday periods. Typical duties during term-time include:
* Supporting boys' daily routines, including getting them up, promoting personal hygiene, meals, school runs, or activities
* Supporting room cleans, developing life skills and independence, promoting socialisation, and supporting bed-time routines
* Attending medical and other appointments
* Supporting activity planners
* Completing day sheets and working on targets with boys
* Completing handover documents and daily paperwork
* Managing budgeting requirements
* Conducting daily room checks and house cleaning tasks
* Handling shopping needs, meal preparation, and kitchen hygiene/laundry duties
* Performing specific checks like COSHH, fire, and vehicle checks
* Building relationships with families, noting special dates, and planning family contacts
Additionally, your role includes being a Keyworker, building strong bonds, showing warmth and empathy, and creating opportunities for the boys’ development and happiness.
All Applicants Must Have:
* Flexibility in availability due to sleep-in nights and shift work, including rotating start times
* An understanding of issues facing young people in care
* Qualifications such as Residential Childcare/Families Practitioner Diploma/Children and Young People's Workforce/NVQ Level in Health & Social Care or willingness to work towards one
* Excellent communication and listening skills
* Willingness to learn
* Ability to work well in a small team
* Willingness to undertake an enhanced DBS check (paid for by us)
* Experience with EBD, social/residential work, or youth work (advantageous)
* A full, clean UK driving license and flexibility to cover other residential homes as needed
