Purpose of the Role
The Head of Procurement Manager will be responsible for developing and executing the companys procurement strategy to support ambitious growth from £50m to £200m turnover. Operating across all utilities with a particular focus on electricity, this role will ensure the business secures best value, manages supply chain risks, and builds strong supplier partnerships that enable safe, sustainable, and profitable delivery of projects. The role will lead procurement activity across materials, plant, subcontractors, and services, driving efficiencies, ensuring compliance with client and regulatory requirements, and embedding robust governance frameworks to support scaling operations.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Strategy & Leadership
* Develop and deliver a procurement strategy aligned with business growth objectives and the transition from £50m to £200m turnover.
* Ensure procurement activity supports operational excellence, margin improvement, and delivery performance across electricity and wider utility contracts.
* Provide commercial insight to the Board and Executive Team on supply chain performance, risks, and opportunities.
Category & Supplier Management
* Lead procurement across key spend categories including materials, subcontractors, plant, and professional services.
* Develop strategic supplier partnerships to secure capacity, improve value, and drive innovation.
* Negotiate long-term agreements that deliver cost savings, security of supply, and alignment with sustainability objectives.
Governance & Compliance
* Implement robust procurement governance frameworks to ensure compliance with corporate, client, and regulatory requirements.
* Own supplier risk management processes, ensuring resilience across the supply chain.
* Report regularly to the Executive and Board on procurement performance, savings, and supply chain risk exposure.
Operational Delivery
* Work closely with project delivery teams to ensure procurement supports safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of projects.
* Develop and implement efficient processes for requisitioning, ordering, and contract administration.
* Introduce digital procurement solutions to improve transparency, reporting, and efficiency.
Team Leadership & Development
* Build and lead a high-performing procurement function capable of supporting rapid business growth.
* Develop procurement talent, succession plans, and continuous improvement across the function.
* Foster a culture of commercial excellence and supplier collaboration.
Key Skills & Experience
* Proven experience as a procurement leader within utilities, infrastructure, or construction, ideally with strong exposure to electricity projects.
* Experience of managing procurement activity in a growing business (£100m+ turnover).
* Excellent negotiation and contract management skills, with a track record of delivering measurable savings and value.
* Strong commercial acumen and understanding of supply chain risk management.
* Experience of implementing procurement systems, digital tools, and data-driven reporting.
* Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks in electricity and broader utilities.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence at Board level.
