About the Role
Position: Quantity Surveyor
Reporting to: Senior Quantity Surveyor
Project & Location
* £45m+ MEP project award under the HMG Future Hospital scheme.
* Report from Exeter office while the project is in preconstruction phase and then relocate to the project office to be site based throughout construction phase at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth.
* Support when required the wider south region portfolio.
Pay range and compensation package
* Salary: £55,000 - £70,000 per year

Responsibilities
* Ensure and support the maintenance of policies of governance, commercial robustness, transparency.
* Ensure timely submission and agreement of applications and invoices for payment so as to maintain a positive cash flow on each project.
* To price and agree variations to contract in accordance with the contract conditions and to the maximum benefit of the project.
* To identify and secure any loss and expense entitlement.
* Provide support to the team in preparation of budgets, cash flow schedules and overhead reviews including monthly reports against budget.
* Negotiate and review terms with clients and third parties and support the tender and negotiation of works and orders with Mitie sales, preconstruction, operations and finance teams.
* To produce subcontractor enquiry documentation and issue for pricing, to undertake assessment of commercial aspects of tender returns and obtain technical appraisal in order to produce recommendation for appointment.
* To review, collaborate, support the better buying with other functions and to bring such into the commercial well-running of a project and policies.
* To compile sub-contract order documentation for issue and endorsement.
* To maintain and forecast sub-contractor accounts on a rolling basis, to measure value and agree variations to the sub-contract sum and assess any claims for additional costs due to prolongation & or loss expense claims.
* To manage the general supply chain proactively throughout the project life cycle.
* Forge relationships with counterparts in clients, consultants and end users.
* Manage the monthly CVR process ensuring accurate and timely production of cost control and reporting is delivered.
* To attend departmental, business unit and general staff meetings.
* Ensure that all documentation is completed accurately and/or revised to ensure quality levels are maintained to the required standard.
* Initiate and carry out audits and inspections of project related supply chain agreements.
* Provide advice and guidance to the Operations Team on all project related commercial matters.
* Recognise own training requirements and support ongoing development of junior commercial colleagues.
* Ensure that MITIE Group and MTFM policies are adhered to at all times; the post holder must ensure that any commercial activities undertaken are engaged and executed in compliance with Mitie's process and systems.
Qualifications
* Degree / professionally qualified.
Required Skills
* Knowledge of the principle forms of building contract and demonstrable working knowledge of NEC/GC/Works/1.
* Experience of tracking/ securing time and cost based contract variations.
* Both main contractor and sub-contractor experience.
* Relevant sector experience – MEP.
* Previous working knowledge and understanding of supply chain agreements.
* Good analytical ability, high accuracy level and attention to detail, observant.
* Able to work with minimal supervision and use own initiative.
* Professional approach to work, clients and colleagues.
* PC skills to an advanced level.
