Overview
Senior Android Engineer (Kotlin) – Build Tech That Really Matters
We are supporting one of our long-term clients in Bristol, a growing engineering scale-up working on defence, government, and emergency services. Their tech supports soldiers, firefighters, and first responders, helping them make critical, life-saving decisions in high-pressure environments.
This isn’t your typical Android job. We’re looking for an experienced Android/Kotlin Engineer with a passion for building hardware-connected Android systems – not just standard banking or retail apps.
Responsibilities
* Develop and maintain Android applications in Kotlin, with emphasis on hardware integration and embedded platforms.
* Collaborate with hardware and embedded teams to enable devices with RF integration and Bluetooth-connected hardware (e.g., heart rate monitors).
* Mentor other engineers and drive best practices for software development in a multidisciplinary, agile environment.
* Contribute to solving complex technical challenges and ensuring usability and accessibility for end users.
What We’re Looking For
* Experience with embedded Linux development.
* Android development beyond phones and consumer apps, ideally integrated with physical hardware.
* Knowledge of ISO 9001/27001 standards (or similar regulated environments).
* Collaborative mindset and empathy for end users – focus on usability and accessibility.
* Agile, iterative approach to building great products.
Bonus points if you’ve worked in defence or another highly regulated space – but it’s not essential.
The Essentials
* Must be eligible for SC clearance – UK passport holders preferred.
* 2-3 days per week on site in Bristol due to secure hardware projects.
Why You’ll Love It
* Build tech with a genuine purpose that makes a difference.
* Work with a talented, supportive team who care about what they do.
* Be part of a company with big growth plans, where your voice matters.
