Description Wood is recruiting for Overhead Linesworker Apprentices to play a crucial role in building, maintaining, and repairing overhead transmission lines. The Apprenticeship will begin the 3 year program in September 2025. The initial apprenticeship will begin in Darlington, with travel throughout the UK for additional training. To provide an overhead lines service to Wood Transmission and Distribution on a variety of sites, adhering to the client safety procedures Overhead Line Apprentice will be expected to assist with building, maintaining and repairing overhead transmission lines using approved standards under direction of the Chargehand, Foreman, General Foreman. Observes, learns and performs duties of an apprentice under direct supervision Learn the proper and safe operation of Platforms, Conductor Trolleys and associated equipment. Works on various structure types of transmission lines at voltages from 132 kV to 400kV. Work at height on a daily basis often involving multiple climbs or working on several sites and locations in a day with exposure to inclement weather and temperature extremes Learn the efficient and proper use of all tools, materials, and equipment. Working to Wood/Client safety rules, principally but not exclusively to DNO projects To assist in tower steelwork assembly and erection using 360 telehandlers, cranes and self-supporting derricks To assist in Running out pilot bonds and new conductors under tension To assist in Conductor replacement including full tension stringing. To assist in working with earthing parties, read and sign on to safety documentation. England - Grade 4 or above (GCSE Grade C or above) Wales - Grade C or above Scotland – National 5 Grade C or above Relevant vocational qualifications or courses in electrical engineering, construction, or related fields. Technical Skills: Basic understanding of electrical systems and components. Experience with or knowledge of working with tools and equipment used in electrical or construction work. Familiarity with safety practices and regulations related to electrical or construction environments Practical Experience: Any hands-on experience in a related field such as construction, electrical work, or mechanical work. Work experience, including internships or part-time jobs, that involved physical labour, teamwork, and adherence to safety protocols. Physical Fitness: Demonstrated ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing, lifting, and working in various weather conditions. Any previous experience in roles that required significant physical activity. Soft Skills: Strong communication skills for effective teamwork and safety compliance. Problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions precisely. Work Ethic and Attitude: A proactive and positive attitude towards learning and development. Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and commitment in previous roles or activities. Willingness to work in a team and support colleagues. Additional Experience: First Aid training or certifications. Experience with or an understanding of working at heights. Any additional technical or vocational training related to electrical work or construction.
