A Vacancy at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. An exciting opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Hip and Knee Surgeon to join the expanding Trauma and Orthopaedic Service at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospital. This post forms part of the new Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre team at Maidstone Hospital. The Centre opened in September 2024 and treats patients from across the region, increasing the Trust’s capacity for planned surgical procedures.
The new facility includes laminar flow theatres, a 14‑bed inpatient ward and a 10‑bed day‑case ward, with recovery, x‑ray and therapy space within a dedicated elective building.
Responsibilities
* Perform elective and trauma hip and knee surgery and provide specialist expertise in hip and knee trauma.
* Attend fracture and elective clinics in Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and peripheral hospitals.
* Deliver day surgery lists and inpatient elective lists in Maidstone and trauma lists at Tunbridge Wells.
* Join the existing on‑call rota.
* Provide a high standard of patient care for all patients within clinical responsibility, including covering for colleagues during on‑call or annual leave.
* Participate in clinical and service developments to ensure high standards of patient care across the Trust.
* Collaborate with medical, professional and managerial colleagues within and beyond the specialty.
* Take part in clinical governance, including attending half‑days as outlined in the Trust’s Guide to Job Planning.
* Contribute to departmental audits, coordinating audit activities and implementing change.
* Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training and supervision.
Location & Facilities
Trust provides general hospital services to a population of approximately 480,000 in West Kent and North East Sussex. Maidstone Hospital has a stand‑alone Orthopaedic Theatre with a 12‑bedded Orthopaedic ward. The Tunbridge Wells Hospital is located in Pembury and is a Trauma Unit with dedicated elective Orthopaedic theatres and a trauma theatre running 8.30 am to 6 pm seven days a week, plus a daily consultant‑delivered specialist trauma list.
