Job Overview
Day‑to‑day care of patients on the Orthopaedics wards, supporting trauma services in theatre and clinics, and participating in a 24‑hour on‑call rota system.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a trainee in the early years of registrar training who will develop an orthopaedic career within this busy, progressive department. Responsibilities include:
- Operating lists, primarily under supervision of consultants and senior colleagues
- Conducting outpatient clinics (elective and fracture)
- Ward rounds with responsibility for the consultant’s patients on the wards
- Supervision of junior doctors in their day‑to‑day duties
- Participation in a 1‑in‑8 non‑resident 24‑hour on‑call rota
- Occasional emergency duties as requested by the consultant, limited to normal practice
Person Specification
Experience & Qualifications
- Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
Clinical Skills & Experience
- Assessment of trauma patients in A&E setting
- Understanding of clinical risk management
- Basic operative skills: joint aspiration, joint and fracture manipulation, DHS, hemiarthroplasty
- Experience at middle grade level in Trauma & Orthopaedics
Knowledge
- Broad experience within and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
- Ability to work effectively in multi‑professional teams
- Understanding of NHS, clinical governance, and resource constraints
- Evidence of managerial skills and achievements
Teaching Skills
- Interest and commitment to teaching
- Recognised teaching qualification
Academic and Research
- Participation in audit activities
- Research experience and publications
