The Women’s Pathway Physiotherapist will lead the delivery of physiotherapy and injury management services for the University of Surrey Women’s BUCS Super Rugby (WBSR) squad. The successful candidate will also provide targeted clinical support to identified pathway players transitioning into the Harlequins Women senior team. This role will be delivered in close collaboration with the Head of Medical – Harlequins Women, the Head of Women’s Pathway & Transition, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure a joined-up, high-performance medical provision.


The Details:

• Reports to Head of Medical - Harlequins Women, with direction also taken from the Head of Women’s Pathway & Transition
• Role Start Date: Immediate Opening
• Fixed term contract until June 2027.


Duties and responsibilities:

• Lead the delivery of physiotherapy services for the University of Surrey Women’s BUCS Super Rugby (WBSR) squad, including injury assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Design and implement individualised rehabilitation programmes, ensuring a high-quality, evidence-based approach to injury management.
• Work closely with athletic performance staff to support return-to-play and return-to-contact processes, ensuring alignment between rehabilitation and performance provision.
• Provide pitch-side medical cover for training sessions and matches as required.
• Monitor and manage player injury status, maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records and reporting.
• Collaborate with the Head of Medical – Harlequins Women to align on clinical standards, medical protocols, and service delivery across the pathway and senior programme.
• Support the Head of Women’s Pathway & Transition in the management and development of identified pathway players, ensuring appropriate clinical support for progression into the senior environment.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with Team Surrey and university-based medical staff to ensure a cohesive and aligned approach to player care.
• Work closely with the wider Harlequins Women’s multidisciplinary team (including coaching, athletic performance, and analysis staff) to support player development and availability.
• Contribute to the development of a high-performance environment, reinforcing agreed standards, behaviours, and ways of working.


The Skills, Experience and Qualifications needed:
• A recognised undergraduate degree (or equivalent qualification) in Physiotherapy.
• Full registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
• Pitch-side trauma management qualification (e.g., RFU Pre-Hospital Immediate Care in Sport Level 2 or equivalent).
• Experience working in elite or sub-elite sport, ideally within rugby union or a contact sport environment.
• Strong clinical reasoning skills with experience in musculoskeletal injury assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation.
• Experience in return-to-play planning and integration with strength & conditioning programmes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail, including medical record keeping and reporting.
• Competency in IT systems relevant to medical record management and performance environments.
• Experience of working in women’s sport and/or of working with pathway athletes (e.g. U18-U23) desirable.
