Emergency Medical Advisor (999 Call Handler – Nottingham)

999 call handler (Emergency Medical Advisor) progressing to an Emergency Medical Advisor Mentor.
Main duties of the job
Based at the Emergency Operations Centre in Nottingham, you will receive 999 and urgent calls from the public and health service colleagues; you will prioritise calls in line with agreed protocols and provide pre‑arrival advice.
Shifts can be up to 12 hours and include night working; the team operates 24/7, 365 days a year including public bank holidays such as Christmas and New Year.
Successful candidates will have previous experience working in a pressurised environment and demonstrate the ability to work effectively and make fast‑paced decisions while providing excellent care and advice.
You will work on your own initiative within a team, have effective verbal communication skills and be computer literate.
Training will be 5 weeks full‑time followed by approximately 8 mentoring shifts. Annual leave is restricted during the training, and some training may be virtual or off‑site.
Job responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities of the post will be undertaken in accordance with the policies, procedures and practices of the Trust.
Patient safety is a key priority. You will ensure compliance with EMAS policies and procedures, including risk management, infection prevention and control, safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
Person Specification
Experience of working with computers; experience of working with the general public; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to pay attention to detail; work experience in a busy office or call centre environment.
