In recent years, we've built a thriving team of General Practitioners who provide high-quality medical care to patients in our community hospital wards across Oxfordshire. Our GPs are highly valued members of a collaborative team, and many describe their work in this setting as both fulfilling and professionally enriching.

We are now looking to expand our bank of sessional GPs to help meet periods of increased demand, provide cover for annual leave, and support service continuity whenever additional medical input is needed.

Main duties of the job

About the Role

This position primarily involves providing medical cover to our community hospital wards located in Bicester, Oxford, Wallingford, and Didcot. There may also be opportunities to support teams at our other sites in Abingdon and Witney.

On any given day, you will be responsible for delivering face-to-face medical support to a maximum of two wards. In occasional circumstances, you may also be asked to offer senior clinical decision-making support to our skilled Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACPs) at other locations.

You will be caring for patients who are:

* Receiving step-down care and rehabilitation following discharge from secondary care
* Admitted for step-up care from the community
* Occasionally requiring palliative support

Your work will include a mix of ward-based care, participation in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and remote or telephone support where appropriate.

Individualised training and support will be provided to successful GP applicants to ensure confidence and competence in this rewarding role.

Oxford Health provides a comprehensive range of physical, mental health and social care services to the populations of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Swindon, Wiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset. In Oxfordshire, we are the main provider of community health services and deliver these in a range of community and in-patient settings including eight community hospitals and a Hospital at Home Team. The trust employs Specialist nurses (e.g. diabetes, heart failure, respiratory) Community Nursing, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapists, Podiatry, Minor Injury Units, Urgent Care, which includes the county Out of Hours GP service.

Working Arrangements & Future Opportunities

We offer flexible sessional work with both ad hoc shifts and block bookings availabletypically arranged 3 to 6 months in advance, depending on the site and day of the week. Looking ahead, there may be opportunities for suitable individuals to take on substantive roles as Community Hospital GPs.

In order to be eligible for this role you will need to hold the following medical qualifications: CCT in Geriatric Medicine, or CCT in General Internal Medicine, or Completion of GP training (either JCPTGP certificate (pre 2005) or MRCGP) (2).

This role is ideal for GPs with a particular interest in the care of older adults, and offers the chance to work within a well-established, supportive team. It also provides an excellent opportunity for GPs with portfolio careers who are seeking additional clinical sessions in a rewarding and collaborative environment.

Qualifications

Essential

* Full GMC registration with licence to practice
* CCT in Geriatric Medicine,
* OR CCT in General Internal Medicine, OR Completion of GP training (either JCPTGP certificate (pre 2005) or MRCGP)

Experience

Essential

* Active NHS clinical experience in:- General (or Community) & Acute Geriatric Medicine OR General Medicine OR General Practice with demonstrable experience in working with older people

Desirable

* Subspecialty experience of working at the Interface between general medicine and primary care
