We are seeking an Assistant Director of Data and Assurance for a national college group based in Newcastle. Reporting to the Director of Business Assurance and Risk, the successful candidate will oversee risk and assurance activities to protect and enhance the organization. The ideal candidate will have a background in auditing and possess CIA, ACCA, ACA, or CIMA qualifications.
This role involves maintaining high standards of data protection and supporting risk, assurance, and data security initiatives. The position requires experience in leading internal audits within complex organizations, with management experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
1. Support the Director of Business Assurance and Risk in conducting advisory reviews and assurance activities in areas less suited to formal audits.
2. Lead planning, scoping, and stakeholder engagement during risk and assurance activities.
3. Document work adhering to professional standards.
4. Collaborate with assurance partners and oversee the delivery of the internal audit plan.
5. Innovate and modernize assurance processes, including the use of IT and data analytics.
6. Follow up on recommendations proactively.
7. Mentor junior staff and support team development.
8. Build positive relationships with staff and stakeholders, promoting the value of assurance.
9. Prepare high-quality reports for Audit and Risk Committees.
10. Respond to data security incidents and oversee related actions.
11. Supervise data protection requests and ensure compliance with legislation.
12. Support the implementation of the ICO’s Accountability Framework.
Experience and Skills:
* Understanding of risk management, internal control, and audit principles.
* Experience leading internal audits in complex settings, preferably in education.
* Ability to interpret policies and apply auditing standards.
* Strong analytical skills and report-writing ability.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare.
