Key Responsibilities:
* Design, implement, and maintain Microsoft SQL server deployments: Manage and support SQL environments with regular upgrades.
* Capacity management and regular patching: Keep databases up-to-date and efficient.
* Backup and recovery: Ensure databases are backed up and recoverable within RPO and RTO objectives.
* Documentation and training: Provide documentation and training to the Server and Storage team and stakeholders.
* Maintain Microsoft SQL estate: Keep the SQL estate supported as per Microsoft's end-of-life timeframe.

Person Specification
Knowledge Requirements
* Windows 2003, 2008, 2016
* Microsoft SQL Server 2008, 2012 & 2016 DBA
* High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server
* Significant experience in IM&T sector and technical areas
* Diagnosing and resolving system technical issues
* Supervisory skills
Qualifications - Academic/Craft
* Master's degree or equivalent with in-depth knowledge of information analysis tools
* UNIX
Experience
* Managing database performance, integrity, and security
* Supporting large organizations with extensive IT infrastructure
* Troubleshooting SQL server issues
* Writing and maintaining critical databases
* Resolving urgent technical problems in live systems
* Performance tuning and optimization for SQL
* Backup, restore, and recovery for SQL Server
Contractual Requirements
* On-call rota participation
* Valid driver's license

This role requires a DBS check due to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
