The Quality function promotes quality and compliance through the product life-cycle within the wider manufacturing and production operations at GSK Barnard Castle Manufacturing Site. The Quality function at GSK plays a critical role in ensuring our products meet the highest standards of safety, efficacy, and compliance. As part of this team you will uphold our commitment to delivering high-quality medicines and vaccines, and healthcare products to patients and consumers around the world.


Job Purpose

Reporting into the site’s Quality Systems and Data Lead, the Quality Digital Innovation Expert manages the adoption and integration of digital technologies to enhance Quality systems and processes across the Barnard Castle manufacturing site. This role focuses on delivering innovative solutions to improve data integrity, process efficiency and compliance, whilst also driving alignment with GSK’s wider digital transformation strategy. The role collaborates widely and cross-functionally with a variety of teams to implement digital tools, optimise workflows and enable advanced analytics to support decision‑making and continuous improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

* Develop and implement digital innovation strategies to optimise Quality systems and advance smart manufacturing initiatives (including improving data integrity and operational efficiency).
* Manage the deployment of digital tools and smart manufacturing solutions to streamline workflows and enable real‑time data access throughout the Quality function.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to identify opportunities for digital transformation and smart manufacturing (ensuring alignment with site aims and regulatory requirements).
* Manage digital and smart manufacturing projects (including planning, execution, and monitoring) to ensure adoption across Quality operations.
* Utilise advanced data and digital solutions to support decision‑making and continuous improvement within Quality processes.
* Ensure compliance with regulatory and organisational standards during implementation and usage of smart manufacturing technologies.
* Provide training and support to Quality teams on new digital and smart manufacturing tools to foster engagement and build digital capabilities across the organisation.
* Act as liaison between Quality function, the IT/digital teams, and manufacturing operations to seamlessly integrate digital and smart manufacturing solutions into existing systems.
* Monitor emerging digital trends and smart manufacturing technologies in the pharmaceutical industry to identify opportunities for further enhanced Quality systems (and to maintain a competitive edge).
* Report on performance and impact of digital innovation and smart manufacturing initiatives, delivering insights and recommendations to senior site management for improvements.


About You

As this role is multi‑faced and includes liaising with a wide variety of on‑site production and operations teams, you will be a self‑motivated person who has strong experience of working in data‑science and/or digital innovation and transformation. Your experience will have been gained whilst working in a complex highly‑regulated manufacturing industry. Familiarity with digital tools such as data visualization software, machine learning models and enterprise management systems (e.g., SAP, LES, LIMS, MES) is required. Strong communication, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills are also considered essential to influence people to achieve and to drive performance.


About Barnard Castle

GSK Barnard Castle is a key secondary manufacturing site. We have invested heavily in Industry 4.0 state‑of‑the‑art bespoke equipment to support sustained new product introductions and volume increases. As a key supplier of some of GSK’s blockbuster products the site contributes revenues of roughly $2 Bn annually.

Basic Qualifications

* Degree in relevant Scientific, Technical or Engineering discipline (eg; Computer Science or related field of study) or strong relevant equivalent experience (ideally gained working in a Manufacturing Facility for a highly regulated industry).
* Relevant knowledge/experience in digital technologies and data systems (as well as scientific principles) for the implementation and optimisation of digital solutions in a highly regulated environment.


Preferred Qualifications

* Knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) requirements.
* Knowledge and application of Quality Management Systems (QMS).
* Knowledge of internal and external audit processes (e.g., inspection readiness & validation).
