Join the official charity of NHS Highland in the role of Grants Officer. This exciting opportunity supports the Highland Health Board Endowment Fund Charity (SC016791) by funding projects that improve experiences for patients, staff, and communities across the Highlands.
About the Role
As Grants Officer you will be the main point of contact for grant enquiries and will oversee the full grant‑making process – from initial enquiry and assessment, through to award, monitoring and evaluation. You will support the presentation of applications to the Charity Committee, manage financial reporting and ensure compliance with NHS Highland policies and OSCR regulations. The role is varied and rewarding, shaping the delivery of impactful charitable projects across NHS Highland.
Responsibilities
• Provide advice and guidance to applicants, primarily within the NHS Highland workforce.
• Oversee all stages of grant making – assessment, award, monitoring and evaluation.
• Present applications to the Charity Committee when required.
• Manage robust financial reporting and maintain compliance with statutory and governance requirements.
• Contribute to quality and process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
* Demonstrable, relevant experience in grant‑making and project management, preferably within a charitable or public sector setting.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to advise, train and support a diverse range of stakeholders; skilled in written communication and diplomatic handling of unsuccessful requests.
* Excellent analytical, organisational and detail‑oriented abilities with capacity to manage competing priorities.
* Confidence in financial processes – monitoring budgets, preparing reports and ensuring statutory compliance.
* IT proficiency, particularly Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ideally grant‑management or CRM systems; ability to contribute to process improvement.
* Proactive, flexible, able to work independently and as part of a team with strong personal accountability.
