Responsibilities
* Responsible for the outcome of work allocated to you, learning and retaining good knowledge of working practices, policies and procedures, telephone liaison with the office to deal with basic issues arising, day to day safety of yourself, others within your team and the general public including close call reporting.
* Undertake duties involved in the repair and maintenance of roads, footways, street furniture and associated facilities, including the clearing and maintenance of highway gullies.
* Use appropriate safety barriers and signs when working, in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual.
* Repair highway defects in accordance with work schedules and using the appropriate specification.
* Collection of materials and plant from a variety of suppliers as required.
* Use of a range of materials including bitumen macadam, hot rolled asphalt, concrete, paving slabs and block paving.
* Installation of street furniture, including signs, guardrails, fencing and bollards.
* Excavation and repair of drains.
* Unblocking of road gullies and sewers.

* Annual increments (where applicable), usually payable on 1st April each year, subject to six months in post, until the maximum spinal column point of the level is reached. Increment payment is not automatic and depends on satisfactory performance.
