Mental Health & Learning Disabilities Care Group Medical Director
We’re seeking a forward‑thinking Medical Director for Mental Health and Learning Disabilities to join our senior Care Group leadership team. You’ll work alongside an Executive Medical Director, Chief Operating Officer, Service Director, Nurse Director, Psychology Director, and other Clinical Directors across a diverse portfolio of services.
You will provide strategic and operational leadership, supporting a committed medical workforce. A key focus will be enhancing recruitment and retention to build a modern, multidisciplinary team aligned with the Welsh Government’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2025–2035.
The Medical Director post is 4–6 PA with consideration of further clinical work tailored to your interests. Mentorship in medical leadership and management is available. Relocation support and relocation package details are in the recruitment pack.
As Medical Director you will lead innovative clinical and workforce practices that support the delivery of safe, high‑quality, efficient patient care. You will transform all aspects of quality and performance of the directorate including clinical activity, financial management, strategy, and business development.
In this role you will promote a ‘one CTM’ approach, working with and across Care Groups, specialities and partners to implement national, regional and local strategies. You will combine clinical expertise with strategic acumen to oversee the delivery of integrated transformational service change that benefits the whole Cwm Taf Morgannwg and commissioned population. You will maintain a focus on quality, improved patient experience and equitable access to services.
Key responsibilities include:
* Strategic leadership and vision for the Mental Health & Learning Disabilities Care Group.
* Operational oversight of clinical services, financial performance, and business development.
* Recruitment, retention, and workforce development initiatives.
* Implementation of national, regional and local mental health strategies.
* Collaboration across Care Groups, specialities, and partner organisations.
* Delivery of high‑quality patient care with a patient‑centred approach.
* Mentor and lead junior clinicians and staff.
Key qualifications:
* Senior medical practitioner with extensive experience in mental health and learning disabilities.
* Proven leadership and management experience, ideally in a healthcare setting.
* Strategic thinking with a record of service transformation.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships.
* Knowledge of Welsh Government Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2025–2035.
* Commitment to quality improvement, patient experience and equity.
