An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8C (0.55wte) Optometrist to join the Optometry Team within the Hospital Eye Service at The National Treatment Centre Highland in Inverness. The successful candidate would work within the Optometry team to deliver a range of specialist clinics in The National Treatment Centre and across Highland, Orkney and Western Isles in conjunction with our ophthalmology, orthoptic and nursing colleagues whilst providing joint leadership of the department with the existing Head of Service (Band 8C 0.45wte).
The role is based at The National Treatment Centre-Highland, a new facility for Ophthalmology and Orthopaedics opened in April 2023. It offers high-spec equipment and opportunities to contribute to eye care development in the Highlands, including travel to peripheral areas such as Wick, Portree and Fort William, as well as island communities in Western Isles and Orkney (a driving licence is required due to travel). The department delivers clinical services across the Highlands and Islands and the successful candidate would gain experience in this regional model of care.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate would lead within the Optometry Department and deliver a range of specialist clinics in collaboration with ophthalmology, orthoptics and nursing colleagues. This includes active participation in postgraduate activities, and leadership of the department alongside the Head of Service.
Travel to peripheral Highland locations and island communities to deliver clinical services as part of the role.
Qualifications and Experience
The candidate should ideally be at least 4 years post qualification experience and have a minimum of 2 years experience within the Hospital Eye Service with proven managerial and leadership skills, alongside a broad clinical experience. The candidate should be able to demonstrate active postgraduate activities, be a qualified independent prescriber (IP), hold relevant postgraduate qualifications and be registered with the General Optical Council as an Optometrist.
