A growing structural steel construction company is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead multiple projects through all phases of developmentfrom planning and procurement to fabrication and installation. This role is ideal for a highly organised individual with a strong background in managing construction projects within the structural steel sector.
Youll play a central role in coordinating between internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities: Lead project planning sessions to define objectives, schedules, resources, and milestones specific to structural steel projects.
Manage internal teams and subcontracted trades, including steel fabricators, erectors, and third-party service providers.
Oversee the full project lifecycle including procurement, manufacturing timelines, site readiness, and erection sequences.
Coordinate design reviews, drawing approvals, and ensure compliance with technical and regulatory standards (e.g., BS EN1090).
Maintain real-time tracking of project progress using industry-appropriate tools and software.
Conduct regular site visits, safety reviews, and performance assessments to proactively address risks or delays.
Facilitate project meetings, document minutes, and ensure consistent communication with all stakeholders.
Identify and resolve constraints related to materials, equipment, and labor availability.
Implement and manage risk mitigation plans tailored to construction site challenges and steel installation logistics.
Manage budgets, generate and track RFPs and purchase orders, and ensure compliance with project financial controls.
Oversee contract documentation, drawing submittals, and document control throughout the project.
Ensure all communications, submissions, and presentations meet professional and branding standards.
Lead or assist in preparing formal and informal tender responses and bid documentation.
Use project planning tools (e.g., Gantt charts, workload analysis) to manage timelines, resources, and client expectations.
Provide detailed progress reports and updates to management and clients, including forecasts, issues, and resolutions.
Conduct post-project evaluations and identify process improvements for future projects.
Drive continuous improvement in project delivery, safety, and quality performance.
Required Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor's degree in project management, construction management, civil/structural engineering, or a related technical field.
Proven experience managing structural steel or heavy construction projects.
Familiarity with steel fabrication and erection processes, technical drawings, and construction documentation.
Strong command of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
In-depth knowledge of industry standards and codes relevant to steel structures (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BS EN1090).
Excellent communication skillsboth written and verbalwith the ability to engage with clients, engineers, suppliers, and site personnel.
Strong leadership, team coordination, and conflict resolution abilities.
High attention to detail, with a systematic and logical approach to problem-solving.
Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple concurrent projects in a high-paced construction environment.
Knowledge of project management methodologies and a commitment to best practices in safety, quality, and delivery.
