Overview
Senior/Semi-senior Accountant – Exeter. This position is ideal for someone who is technically strong and passionate about client service. You will deliver accounting services, ensuring compliance and high-quality outputs. Location: Exeter, Hybrid working option.
Responsibilities
* Financial reporting and compliance: Prepare and review financial statements, annual accounts, tax returns, bookkeeping, VAT, and periodic management reports for clients. Ensure accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards and UK tax regulations. Ensure reporting deadlines are met.
* Client relationship management: Serve as a trusted adviser for clients, handling day-to-day queries and proactively addressing accounting and business needs. Assist clients with their accounting software, including Xero, Sage, and QuickBooks, ensuring client satisfaction.
* Team training and mentoring: Supervise and mentor junior accountants and trainees. Review their work, provide guidance and training, and foster professional development.
* Quality control and compliance: Take responsibility for the quality of work produced, implementing review processes to ensure compliance with UK GAAP/IFRS and the latest tax legislation. Stay up to date with changes in accounting standards or tax law and adapt services accordingly.
* Continuous improvement: Work with the team to identify opportunities to improve internal processes or enhance the client service experience.
About You / Qualifications
* AAT/ACA/ACCA qualified or part-qualified: Essential, providing a solid technical foundation in accounting standards.
* Practice experience: Experience in accounts preparation, knowledge of accounting principles, basic tax return preparation, bookkeeping, and VAT.
* Technical skills: Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards (UK GAAP and/or IFRS) and a good understanding of tax compliance. Stay current with regulatory changes to ensure client work compliance.
* Accounting software: Experience with Xero, Sage, and/or QuickBooks.
* IT skills: Intermediate Excel; experience with CCH is a plus.
* Client-focused communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to explain complex financial information clearly to clients.
* Analytical and organised: Strong analytical, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, good organisation, and proactive issue resolution.
