Overview
We are very excited to be growing our small and efficient TechOps team at Octopus. We are looking for an ambitious, deeply knowledgeable and experienced TechOps Generalist to join our team, grow with the company, and ensure we do so in a secure and safe way.
A key partner in defining what TechOps is, you will help shape our team to provide world‑class support, build solutions with engineering firepower, and undertake transformational organisational change. We don’t just “fix” things – we automate them out of existence.
What is TechOps?
A modern, lean version of a traditional Enterprise IT team with around one of us for every 1000 people at Octopus. We cover everything from “1st line support” up to high‑level strategic planning and everything in between. We tackle big problems, work with ambiguity, and have a cloud‑first approach that scales quickly – no on‑prem AD here.
Potential roles you may have transitioned from include:
* Systems engineer, DevOps, Tech support, Technical support analyst, IT support, IT desktop support, Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, Workplace technology, Solutions specialist, Solutions administrator, Systems manager, Support manager.
What youll do
* Provide day‑to‑day technical support to all areas of the business, ensuring employees can work efficiently.
* Troubleshoot and fix a wide range of technical issues, from laptop faults and network problems to account provisioning failures and SSO issues.
* Collaborate closely with the Security team to balance security, productivity, and user experience.
* Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve the user experience.
* Empower people to help themselves by designing and building self‑service solutions.
* Monitor and maintain technology in offices worldwide – networks, meeting rooms, printers, digital signage, CCTV, door access control.
* Manage supplier relationships and procurement of SaaS and hardware.
* Lead and manage complex technical projects with multiple stakeholders across the business.
Examples of TechOps projects
* Rollout of, and migration to, a new identity provider.
* macOS and Windows MDM migration.
* Rollout of a new device trust and posture compliance solution.
* Replacement of insecure factors like SMS with phishing‑resistant factors.
* Office fit‑outs, including network, AV, access control.
* SaaS migrations for acquisitions, e.g., Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace.
What youll need
At least 5‑7 years of solid enterprise IT experience. The technical bar is high; we use Okta, Kandji, Kolide, Zscaler, Meraki, and HiBob, amongst others. Experience implementing and customising these tools for Enterprise environments is expected.
* Confidence in articulating and implementing technical ability, especially with enterprise‑level SaaS tooling, customer support, and automation, both with peers and novice users.
* A collaborative team player who shares progress and seeks help when needed.
* Rich experience with scripting and using APIs to automate mundane tasks.
* Comfort with ambiguity and juggling multiple responsibilities.
* Experience managing multiple teams and stakeholders.
* Experience deploying macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android at scale.
* Experience administering and troubleshooting SSO technologies such as OAuth, OIDC, and SAML.
* Deep experience with Identity & Access Management; ability to explain nuances of SAML, OIDC, and OAuth, and hands‑on experience with SCIM provisioning.
* Experience designing and installing office networks, including Cisco Meraki.
* A conscientious approach, prioritising doing the right thing over the easy thing.

Location
This role can be fully office‑based in any major office (Brighton, Manchester, Leicester, Coventry, or London), or a hybrid arrangement with a few days a week in the office. Fully remote is also possible.
