Consultant Anaesthetist
Location: Dr Gray’s Hospital, Elgin, Scotland. NHS Grampian is expanding the Anaesthetic Department. This full‑time post (flexible or part‑time) will be based primarily at Dr Gray’s Hospital, with opportunities to work at other hospitals within Grampian or other Health Boards. Individualised job planning can be tailored to the service and applicant needs, including flexible/part‑time/annualised work patterns.

Dr Gray’s Hospital is a district general hospital in Elgin, North‑East of Scotland. Inverness lies 35 mi to the West, Aberdeen 65 mi to the East.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and deliver consultant‑level anaesthesia care including obstetric anaesthesia. Expand the team to at least 12 WTE to meet Royal College of Anaesthetists Obstetric Anaesthesia requirements. Participate in resident non‑consultant rota tier and provide consultant‑led obstetric service.
Qualifications & Registration
* Full registration with a licence to practise with the GMC (licence must be in place prior to starting).
* Evidence of FRCA.
* UK‑trained doctors: evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register at interview date.
* CESR or Portfolio Pathway route doctors only eligible after CESR or Portfolio Pathway registration is awarded.
* International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC: confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
Locum Opportunity
Doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register may be considered for a locum consultant post of up to 12 months if no substantive appointment is made. During locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made.
Additional Information
From 1/4/26, the full‑time agenda for change working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week; part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata with a corresponding increase in hourly rate.
