Purpose of the role

To work with the Curriculum Manager for Professional Qualifications to develop the Counselling offer, to ensure compliance with exam board requirements, support the counselling team to develop their own teaching skills and teach on the level 4 programme. To monitor key trends and developments in education and counselling. To coordinate and monitor student placements to ensure a quality experience and to support the Curriculum Manager to liaise with external agencies and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will be expected:

1. To assist the Curriculum Manager in the co-ordination and development of the programme, to assist in planning, staffing and costing the programme, and to ensure that a copy relating to the prospectus is produced to deadline.

2. Keep abreast of developments and good practice in relation to Counselling and ensure that the Curriculum Manager and the teaching staff are well informed, and our provision meets the required standards.

3. To liaise with awarding bodies and act as lead verifier for Counselling programmes.

4. To offer educational guidance and advice to students and to assist with enrolments, taking on a lead responsibility for advice and guidance for Counselling students.

5. To assist the Curriculum Manager in ensuring tutors' training needs are met.

6. To design and deliver training for the department's Counselling tutors as needed.

7. To carry out departmental duties and other Centre-wide duties, as reasonably directed from time to time, that contribute to the effective and efficient running of the Centre.

8. To undergo annual appraisal and undertake training as and when identified as being appropriate to ensure that knowledge and skills are up to date.

9. To be a member of the staff team and to support a way of operating that values mutuality, respect, consideration and honesty.

10. To implement Centre policies and procedures, in particular the Equality and Diversity Policy, Safeguarding (incl. Prevent) and Health and Safety Policy, and to be aware of their implications for the performance of duties.

Person Specification

Successful applicants will:

Essential Skills

· Extensive experience of adult education, with a PGCE and Counselling qualification with knowledge of good practice in teaching

· Experience of supporting and delivering Counselling programmes up to and including level 4.

· Experience of teaching/co-ordinating accredited courses and dealing with the requirements of external Awarding Bodies.

· Relevant recent experience as a practicing counsellor, preferably BACP accredited.

· Experience of participating in the delivery of in-service training and the support of teaching staff in the classroom.

· Experience of providing pre-Advice & Assessment, of managing partnerships with community groups and employers would be an advantage.

· Excellent subject knowledge and a degree level qualification in a relevant subject

· Up-to-date knowledge of the issues which affect the delivery of courses in adult education, including current government initiatives.

· An understanding of the value of adult education and its impact on people's lives.

· An understanding of and commitment to the implementation of equal opportunities and health and safety within an educational setting.

· Ability to establish good working relationships with staff and students and to work well as a member of a team.

· Ability to work under pressure and respond to conflicting demands with minimum supervision.

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to produce reports for a variety of audiences, to high professional standards within tight deadlines.

· Commitment to developing staff through training as individuals and in their teams.

· Experience to a good standard of all Microsoft packages (inc. Word, Excel & PowerPoint)

· Excellent organisation / time management skills.

· Ability to use own initiative and have a flexible approach

· Ability to deal with sensitive information in a confidential manner

· Ability to work well independently

Desirable Experience:

· Experience of working in education and / or a charity

· Experience using SharePoint

Hours: 17.5 hours per week - The post holder will be expected to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the department. However, working evenings and some weekends will be required.

Contract Type: Fixed Term 1 year or a sessional tutor term time

Full Time Equivalent Salary: £43,211.00 per annum inc. Holiday Pay

For 17.5 hours per week contract - Actual Salary: £25,881.53 per annum inc. Holiday Pay (please note salary is based on current academic year calendar 13 weeks per term / 3 terms)

For sessional Tutor contract: £37.92 per hour

Location: 275 to 285 High Street, Stratford, E15 2TF
